In the distant future (+- 2 years), we want to remodel our master bath. We want to remove the tub alltogether and build a large walk in shower, steam, bench and 2 shower heads.

What issues arrise with 2 shower heads? Lower flow, lower pressure, reduced shower time? What solutions exist to improve flow? Dual hotwater pipes to tank?

Flow is an issue. A larger ( 3/4") water supply all the way from the WH would be recommended. Proper selection of valves is important, and multiple heads usually dictate a loop design on the pipes to equalize pressure. Any good plumbing store, or mfg website, can provide details of this. If you plan long showers at multiples of 2.5 gpm (one head) think about a larger WH.

I wonder at what point two water heaters in-line would be better than 1 large one. Or can you have a timer on the 2nd.

We would be interested in long showers. My shower will be dubbed "The Babymaker".
