Most faucets are similar to this one if you have valve stems.
MY COLD WATER FAUCET IN MY BATHTUB WON'T SHUT OFF. i TRIED TO SHUT IT OFF WITH A PAIR OF VICESCRIPTS BUT i STRIPPED IT AND I BROKE A SCREW OFF IN THE BRASS THING THAT THE PLASTIC CAP GOES ON. WHat can i do . i'm really frustrated with this
so I'll need a puller ,sockets and I'll need to replace what.?
Also, how can I get the screw out?at the risk of sounding stupid. I might have a thingy or atleast my boyfriend my in his tool box. he's out of town for 2wks. so I'm on my own
If you have a stem, like in the picture, then either a wrench or a socket will help you remove the stem.
Then you can take the stem down to the hardware store and try to match it up.
Most of the time, we like to replace the seat too.
If this is too much, and it is for most people, then it's "plumber time".
Don't feel bad, I don't work on my own cars anymore either.
If you could take a picture of it, it would help.
You couldn't shut off the cold water because your handle was stripped. Now you broke off the screw in your valve stem.
1. You can shut off the water and replace the valve stem. You need the right plumbing socket though.
2. You can try extracting the screw with one of those $10.00 screw extractors and a screw gun.
3. You can keep using your vice grips to turn off the cold water until you get someone who can do either of the above.
i replaced the stem and it still wont shut off. i'm not sure because i dont know what its suppose to look like , but i think the seat?, were it sits inside the pipe , it doesnt seem to fit anywhere. its pretty loose.can anybody show me what it looks like inside when put toigether
If your seat is bad, you need to remove the old one with a seat wrench and take it to the hardware store to match it up. Here's a pic of a seat wrench:
I dont mean this to sound arrogant
but you have already done enough damage
Why dont you call a plumber
I vote for calling a plumber, and God KNOWS how I feel about plumbers, LOL.
