I was in Lowes tonight and one thing that caught my eye is that they are promoting that the water heaters now come with a standard right turn thermo coupling?
Not trying to pry Mark but was there a particular issue with the Icon valve itself?
*****Edit*****
Ok I see now....would not come back on after turning it off...
You know the plumber had...
Mark- Can you share what was the issue with the Icon gas valve?
Thanks
It is in the basement.....the plumber said used to be a requirement but is no longer..maybe different requirements for Nashua vs Merrimack? Who should be able to confirm? Water Dept?
So the...
Im talking about the brass fitting here off the cold water feed

Plumber said no longer required
What is it's purpose?
I can't remember what it is called but usually on the cold water feed to the water heater there is an extra brass piece that I think the plumber said is a vacuum relief something or other.
When...
There is a thin line of rust forming on the top of the water heater already where the condensation usually forms....my guess is that it may be from the metal cap that sits on top of the flue.
...
When the plumber put in the the BW water heater he set it at 60 psi...said it was at 30 psi....
Is there a set standard at what it should be set at? Id PSI is too high what does that affect?
...
How about Paxil? I hear they work better ;) :D
I understand your side Cass and others..you guys are the plumbers and I understand you can't swap out stuff on a whim....I just think that the...
So I guess all that talk about the flue being centered under the draft hood is out the window? Because as we can see it is off here
I really don't think I am going out of my way to find things...
Lol cass. Yes I suppose not. I think the second picture shows things best. The others make it look ok I guess. But can you see what I am talking about? The flue is a bit cockeyed. You guys can...
Well I found the source of the smell....it is this sealant or epoxy the put on to..well seal the seams I guess..
I imagine this smell goes away after awhile?

Got a TON of those flakes and looks like there were some when disconnected at the gas valve as well!
You were not kidding
Plumber came over today and ripped out the Kenmore WH and put in the Bradford White.
So far so good...first thing I noticed was it was a LOT quieter than the Kenmore. He also redid the gas line...
He is a licensed gas fitter as well.....he just came and looked things over...will put in black pipe..asked if I wanted stainless flexible an I opted for the black pipe...hope that is right...
Yep will do Mark...noticed my gas line for furnace has one but not dryer....stainless steel connection.......flexible...fwiw the copper line is very thin and it does have the drip leg wonder if it...
Guys does position of baffle make any difference?
I'll have the plumber do that when he swaps out my piping this week
Could be..it has probably been on there since 1983 when place was built. So even for the Water heater only being hooked up for a little more than a month it could be plugged? Has burned this way...
Even though I can smell gas a bit when I take off the cover? Doesn't seem to travel out side of furnace but still has me on edge a bit. I wonder why it is even there if supposed to be 100% sealed?
Lol np.....do any of my questions or theories make any sense?
1)The plumber coming over to install the Bradford White asked me if I had Sears out to check gas pressure..told him I was done with Sears and wanted Bradford White regardless....if issue with gas...
