Just curious. Why run 14 instead of 12? We were just doing some work on my mother-in-law's and the sparky told me her town is all 12ga./20amp now.
I was wondering if more jurisdictions was going...
Has anyone here done this? And/or have a recommendation for a supplier?
It's a steel skinned door with, what appears to be a wood frame and, I ASSUME, a foam core.
Looking for something around...
OK thanks for your help. I thought it was working as needed but it's hard to tell until I hook up the fixtures. Climbing up and down the ladder with the circuit tester testing scenarios isn't easy....
The way I have it wired now is: hot wire from source in to one of the common (black) screws. Two wires out to the (2) separate fixtures. One of the two wires out is attached to A1 ..... the other is...
There are two commons and three other brass screws. I'm guessing either common for the hot-in and the A1 A2 screws out to the fixtures. Yes?
It's a double (rocker/decora) switch I intend to separately switch two fixtures.
There are three brass screws marked B1, A1, and A2. And two black "common" screws.
I saw the electrician at my...
I'm testing a couple mats prior to installation. The label on the floor mat(s) says OHM range from 44-54. I'm getting a reading of just a hair over 15 for both mats. I'm assuming I don't have two bad...
Yes, you did. And thank you.
It's an old broan fan/light/heater original to the house circa 1971. It does have a proprietary control now.
I need to add switches so I'm cutting a little drywall...
Not sure if I have seen one. I should have posted this for our summer/vacation home that we sometimes rent out. My fear is that someone will leave the heater on for a week.
I think you are correct. That's the way we will go. Also, I don't know if there is a nuetral in the switch box and some of those push-buttons require a nuetral.
Huh?
.......
Thanks for that.
For some reason, I have the hardest time navigating their site.
I still can't find the double rocker switch on their site. I know it exists becauuse it's on HD's website here:...
The plan is to place the heater on the timer and switch the fan and light.
I have to check again, but I believe the heater is rated at 1000 watts.
The largest wattage timer I have run across is...
Yikes, Jim!
I've done that - left an open "shut off" line. That's a good point about capping them off just in case.
I just watched the Bourne Supremecy - he busts the gas line off the wall and...
That's a good point.
I was helping a friend change out some lights and watched him wrap the hots with electrical tape and loosely twist on a wire nut. I was like "hold on" and he said "that's the...
That's a very good point. Or un-plug the thing. But there is always the gas.
That's interesting you mentioned that person being electrocuted in that way. I was quizing the sparky on my...
That question came up last year between my wife and I. We were on our way out the door and she asked me if I left the dishwasher on. I said yes what's the problem. She said she never leaves it...
That's what I fear. I'm not worried about not knowing the answer. I worry about not knowing the question.
I feel I'm fairly competent to at least ask the right questions. I hope.
Sure!! The more the merrier. The life you save might be ..... mine!
BTW, I found your comments on multi-meters to be quite eye-opening. So I did a bunch of research. I own one of the darn things I...
I've been thinking about this topic for some time and really got to thinking about it when I saw some really dangerous set-ups in my mother-in-law's new house.
What are the TOP things homeowners...
Home inspectors are almost about worthless. I say almost because they DO, once in a while, earn their keep... only as a second set of eyes. But I think EVERY house - especially older homes - should...
That seems like a great alternative. Expand the first box and install the wind up timer.
And if I have this right, I'll know which box to install it in because it will be one of the 3-ways....
That's not a bad idea. But there ARE some times when he may want full light.
He does have a home automation system that he can control some things (front door, garage door, HVAC) remotely over the internet.
Once we determine how this is wired, we may be contacting the...
