Jim- Full unfinished basement below, I can stand right under the entire bathroom and see the subfloor.
The chrome trap and the pipe leading up from it to the drain are both relatively new, must be...
Jim- The pan is concrete with some very small "flecks" (?) of mica-like material on the surface. Very attractive, solid and thick, well-crafted, appears almost like new and I have trouble believing...
I used a plastic test plug in the shower drain, got a very tight fit. Filled the pan with water over the wall/floor seam. Almost immediately started leaking down the floor joists.
Obviously I was...
Jim- Thanks for the reply. I understand and agree with your point about a properly-built shower, which is why I stressed the overall excellence of the workmanship and materials in my house (IMHO the...
I have a custom built 1958 ranch with an unfinished basement, it's easy to work on the main floor plumbing. Everything in the house was built very solidly by great craftsmen; I've done plenty of...
I feel a bit silly asking about this, but don't know where else to turn!
We have a 1958 ranch house, bought it from the original owners who also designed it. Most things are fine except the...
Got it, HJ, thanks.
Managed to drill the 6 holes. About 10 minutes each, very slow, plenty of water spray, two Hitachi diamond bits. Wouldn't want to do that very often, but it's done!
I'm not sure what you mean when you say that "the screw really isn't holding much in tension, only shear". TIA.
OK, guys, thanks. I guess I'll try to drill at least one hole; if it doesn't seem doable I'll switch to plan B.
Terry & HJ- As usual, thanks for your prompt and informative replies. After taking exhaustive pains to get the thing in right, I just wanted to make sure that I didn't have a damaged valve. My wife...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I need to drill 6 holes, 3 in each side jamb, into new, very hard porcelain tile.
Diamond bits are expensive,...
Turn on, works fine.
Turn off, constant drip from tub spout.
Help appreciated, thanks in advance.
Jim- Thanks much. It's that "one more time around" middle ground that's got me worried, I'm never quite sure where to stop! :o
I'll give it a try, worse comes to worse I'll just back 'er out and...
Very Minor Question, Just Wondering:
Any tips/tricks for screwing in a new chrome shower arm?
I'm going to wrap the threads a few times with Teflon tape AND put some pipe dope on them.
Is...
Yep, full unfinished basement below, very easy access. It does go into a cast iron hub. I think that I'll try and take the whole thing out tomorrow. Thanks much!
1958 house, a lot original, some remodeled.
Existing toilet leaking around base. Removed.
Found that the tiile was laid higher than brass flange, which is broken probably due to too much torque...
Couple more questions:
1. When I cut out the old cast iron tee from the long vertical run of galvanized drain pipe and replace it with a PVC tee and two no-hub couplings, is there some additional...
That things been there since 1958: it ain't spinnin'! :D
Terry-
Thanks for your prompt answer, as usual. Yes, it's 1.5".
Followed you great up to "cut the tee out"!:)
1. What kind of new tee can I use for the replacement?
2. What kind of pipe...
Replacing old vanity, need to move the plumbing about 18" to the left (blue tape.)
I'm OK with the hot & cold supply, seems to be fairly straightforward. Not sure what to do about the drain?????
...
I've been thinking about it. I hate to go backwards on a project, but for an hour or so and a few bucks I'll have more peace of mind, so I think I'll take the Durock off the one wall and put in an...
Gutted an existing bathroom. Tub installed in alcove.
The tub/shower alcove will evenually be fitted with a glass shower door, bottom track on the tub of course.
My question:
Should the...
I had in the grey "test" cartridge that came in the unit.
I off the supply lines and installed the regular cartridge. Hopefully that will do it.
Thanks!
Correction to last post:
Maybe it is filling with cold water, I can't tell.
But no hot water in house. Pilot light lit, all supply lines open.
