There are a number of issues when oversizing conductors, 1) the lugs ability to accept larger ones. 2) NEC art. 250.122(B), here is a copy & paste from the 2008 edition.
(B) Increased in Size....
Just because a breaker "fits" does not mean it's OK to use it. A competitive make circuit breaker must be UL "classified" to be used in a specific panel.
Is your existing breaker going to accept the #2 AWG AL conductors?
No, QO is 3/4" wide, HOM is 1" wide.
Not permitted, a left/right coupling may have worked but since was not there I dunno....:D
Just a FYI: Red heads (anti-short bushings) are not required on MC cable but IMO is a wise practice/cheap insurance, they are required on AC cable by the NEC. Keep it up.:)

Read the panel listing & labeling, some are listed for as many as 3-EGC's per screw, with a limitation of being the same size, & conductor type. If one runs out of space on a ground bar you can...

Besides the panel not being listed for semi-flush, a big risk is sealing around the panel to avoid water intrusion & caulking does not cut it, water damage is costly to repair.

If this is a residence, voltages higher then 120 volts are prohibited. See 210.6 (A) 2005 NEC.
