automatic pump

I am hoping to drain water from a collection tank once a day, i am just curious what sort of valve, timer, setup would be recommended here.

A "manual pump" with an auxiliary float switch to prevent it from overfilling would be the first thing, then a timer in parallel to the float switch, so either one turns the pump on should give you what you want.

More details might yield better suggestions. What sort of collection tank and why just once a day?
