How does the water get from the salt tank back to the water system. I only have one line going between the salt tank and the mechanism. I see water going in to the salt tank but I can't see how it gets out.

The control unit draws the brine from the salt tank through the same tube that is used to carry water to the salt tank. A description of the process is here:
