This is my first post, hope someone here can help/advise me.
I'm a homeowner with a backyard well intended originally for lawn irrigation. Problem was that the electric pump kept burning out. I recently replaced it (electric pump) with a hand pump. Intention is to simply use well now for an emergency water supply on the property. 1st week, the water was sparkling, clear, odorless, effervescent even.
I planned to get the water tested, but dropped the ball for a couple of months. Just ordered a test kit, went out to collect a sample and got nasty green smelly water. pumped for an hour and got brown silty water. This water gets much more clear with 24 hours standing, but still does not appear appetizing. Sediment is very fine particulate, I'd guess something like brown baby powder texture. I have not felt of the sediment.
Was advised to pour several gallons of Clorox into the well. Seemed like a lot to me, so I did .75 gallons, 2 times, several days apart. Pumped a lot of water after letting it sit for several days.
The well is small diameter, not sure, maybe 1"? Approximately 25' deep.
I will say, it helped a bit with the odor, but the color and turbidity is even worse now.
I am in Eastern NC, small town. There has been no ground disturbance, as far as I know.
Any ideas what could have happened to my nice water?
Suggestions on what to do?
I don't see any point in testing such foul water.
Thanks for any help.
