Hello Folks,
Quick question....
I think I have a slow leak in my toilet from cistern to bowl. Is it an easy enough fix?
I've been looking into it online, but couldnt find anything about it in here on the tutorials section.
Is it safe enough to try and make a stab at it if you're not a plumber?

Thanks

A new flapper is the most probable fix. Very easy. Cheap. There are troubleshooting steps that can be more sure that is the problem, but replacing the flapper is worthwhile before troubleshooting further.

Wipe the seat with a cloth to remove any debris.

And wear some disposable rubber gloves when you replace it. Flappers develop this black grease that stains almost like ink.

While the flapper valve is the most common place for the tank to leak, there is also a gasket underneath the flush valve assembly that seals it to the tank and often, to the bowl. While not as common, that can develop a leak as well. To fix that one, you might not need to replace the donut seal, you might be able to tighten the nut that holds it all together, but to access it, you have to remove the tank and have a really large pair of pliers or a monster wrench. If either the fill valve or the anchor bolt seals were leaking, you'd normally have water showing on the top of the bowl and likely on the floor as well. If you do remove the tank for some reason, you should get new gaskets for the tank bolts when putting it back together.
