Shower valve too corroded

My shower head was leaking so I replaced the valve cartridge. Thought that fixed it but it’s still leaking … I pulled out the cartridge and noticed corrosive spots inside the valve. You can see the two circles on each side where the old cartridge sat. Is this normal? Or is this why it might be leaking? Do I need a new valve or is there some other kind of solution. Thanks so much in advance
