My hot water cylinder is leaking at the top from the immersion thermostat socket

I will note that the immersion part is disconnected and the thermostat on the side is being used to heat the water by oil now.

It's not a super fast leak but I need to fix it asap.

Call a plumber?
Unscrew and thread with plumbers tape etc
Or get new but to put in the top?

Those seem to be my options. Has anyone got any advice or tips to maybe buy some time before a potential whole new system that's modern and not gravity fed?
