My S2 is aware there is external circulation through a configuration menu, as well as type of circulator: always-on, intelligent, etc. This allows it to survive in a hostile recirculator environment, although it's preferred to set up external recirc correctly with an aquastat. I think they define an S2 aware of recirc, as "Navicirc". Which is slightly better than marketing fluff.

For a new install without plumbed-in recirc, the A2 is great.

You can't see the stainless pump body in the photo? The venting is a quick install to get hot showers while I wait for the roofer to come out and replace the roof jack to fit the PVC concentric vent. What a bunch of critics

That could be painted cast for all I can tell from the pic. Just trying to give some info. Yeah, plumbers are a critical bunch, ask 5 different plumbers how to do something and get 5 different answers. Looks good, no offense intended.
