The old bathtub had an overflow that was away from the wall about 3". New overflow location is (pretty much) directly against the wall but a joist is in the way. Any suggestions how to proceed? I'm wondering if I can notch into the joist and use 45s to position the overflow assembly.
There's an additional complexity of a copper pipe directly under the drain, so the assembly has to come in at an angle already.
My backup plan would be to build out the wall 3", and take 3" off of the opposite wall, but that's a lot of additional work so I'd like to avoid that if possible.
