Need to repair tub linkage.

Can someone help me identify and repair this tub linkage? This is a soaker tub and it appears that the overflow twists to pop the plug up or down. What's the best way to repair this? I was going to remove the drain but my standard tub drain tool doesn't fit. I don't want to break the seal unless I know what I am doing.

Any help would be appreciated.
