I replaced a leaky flapper valve. Test: turned off the watersupply + added dye (coffee) to the tank to determine if water is leaking through the valve. 24 hours has goneby and no sign of coffee in the bowl. What is a reasonable time to wait and then declare success?

I use food coloring and find that if I cannot see it in the bowl after a few minutes, any leak is not substantial enough to be concerned with.

@cacher_chick: Thanks for the rule of thumb. I let it set for 36 hours+ and no sign of leaks. It's good to know that 15 minutes is enough.

Coffee? Maybe it wanted a latte. IF there were any leak, the water level would also have gone done during a 24 hour time period, which is how I test it for a period of 5-10 minutes.
