Just bought a cottage on the NY Finger Lakes and had a brand new water system installed. Water is pulled from Seneca lake via a submersible Goulds pump, then travels up a big hill to the shed where it goes into a Goulds water system tank, then to a Culligan sediment filter, UV light and then to the cottage.

Worked OK for two months, water tested well, pressure OK.

The last two weekends it has rained and the lake has been churning, water pressure dropped off and we ended up with no water in the cottage at all. When the Culligan sediment filter (5 micron) is removed, we have water. It is not filtered and the UV does not work if it is not filtered to at least 5 microm.

The man who installed the system checked it and said it was our filter which gets dirty fast. It is expensive to replace.

We had another plumber consult with us and he has told us that:

-the pump is not far enough out in the lake, it is out about 8 feet mounted under the dock. He suggests 146 feet out.

- we need 5 levels of filter on the submersed pump including a zebra mussel filter - he can adjust the present Gould's pump, which is brand new

- the Culligan sediment filter cannot handle all the sediment

- our Gould's water system tank (60 v) is too small

This is an expensive fix with all the new materials needed and a diver to install the pump. Does this sound correct? Any suggestions?
