Trap arm size vs. santee size

Nice guide! Thanks. I understand that the trap arm must be twice the inside diameter of the pipe, but my question is about something different. I'll try to phrase it another way. Can the diameter of the trap arm (in this case 1 1/2") be a smaller than the opening diameter of the sanitary tee (in...

Trap arm size vs. santee size

I searched the internet but couldn't find an answer. Can you connect a smaller trap arm to a larger sanitary tee opening? The sanitary tee opening to the trap arm is 2" but the decorative trap arm, which serves a lavatory, pedastal sink is 1 1/2". Is this going to be a problem?

    Toilet offset from stack question

Thanks for the suggestions. I won't bother with small claims and he's tight with the inspector. There are some things that I appreciate about his work. He didn't go through any studs that I asked him to stay clear of. Going through those studs would have made his work easier, but instead he got...

    Toilet offset from stack question

I respect this plumber because I see that he works hard but I agree that there's something to be desired in the knowledge department. How do I tell a plumber with 25+ years experience that he's wrong? But I guess I'll have to find a way to move that toilet.

    Toilet offset from stack question

JRC3, to answer your question, before the plumber had begun the bathroom waste pipes we were looking at centers (I had a 1/2 x 3 piece of plywood screwed to the studs marking the centers for them) and we discussed the mark I had for the toilet center. He said, No, we can't line it up with that...

    Toilet offset from stack question

Terry, thanks, your photo above is exactly the situation we had. On the right there was a joist. We had about 5 inches to swing the toilet arm until we hit that joist and that's what I was looking to do. It made sense the way it was because the original toilet center was about 12" from the...

    Toilet offset from stack question

I'm trying to make some sense of this, too. This toilet is the uppermost waste connection to the stack. There's nothing in the way that could have prevented rotation of the toilet tee. Below the toilet tee, and separate from it, is the sink tee, which also serves the tub. I'll try to upload...

    Toilet offset from stack question

I agree, having to center the toilet directly in front of the stack at a 90 degree angle is ridiculous and we're talking about inches here. The plumber knew I moved a wall to give us more room and essentially eliminated the benefit by preventing us from moving the toilet. The plumber has 25+...

    Toilet offset from stack question

See attached drawing. The plumber working on our renovation of a 1950 home says you can't offset a toilet from the stack. It has to line up right in front of the stack. It can't be set at an angle, or offset like I want to do to allow for a larger sink. I already moved a closet wall to give the...

    1950 Renovation Questions

I get it. Thanks. He doesn't seem to like that area where the 1 1/2 vents meet with a double 1/4 bend going into the existing 2 and especially doesn't like that I want the washer side capped for now; I want to tie into it for a laundry room addition later. He says I can't do a kitchen sink and...

    1950 Renovation Questions

Is the following in the UPC 2012? If it is then could this be what the plumber is referring to? 905.4 Roof Termination. Vent pipes shall extend undiminished in size above the roof, or shall be reconnected with a soil or waste vent of proper size.

    1950 Renovation Questions

Problem. The plumber is telling me you cannot decrease then increase the vent size. I really don't get it. So, we have 2" waste for the kitchen sink with a 1 1/2 vent, which ties into a 2" existing galvanized vent going through the roof. I guess the plumber is saying you can't do this, you can't...

Thanks! At the transition where the two 1 1/2 vent branches meet, are these fittings OK? See pics. 2 to 1 1/2 coupling.

    1950 Renovation Questions

Renovating a home built in 1950. I marked up part of the original piping draft, attached. This job is in New Mexico under 2012 UPC. Right now, I need to know if I can go from 2" drains to 1 1/2" vents and then back to a 2" vent through the roof. I read somewhere that you can't go from one size...
