So I used the bathtub valve socket to remove this nut, but how do I get this cylinder thing around it off? This part is not unscrewing past a certain point, I don't want to force it.. any ideas?
Wrap the chrome cylinder with a small cloth and use a channel lock wrench to unscrew it (turn it CCW).
Don't squeeze to hard, you might damage it.
You need to get the stem out, but make sure your water main is off. Take the stem to a plumbing place for a matching replacement.

Three handle valve with integral shutooffs.
You can shut off each side so that you can remove and replace the valve stems without turning off the water to the entire home.
You can also just leave them alone and turn the water off to the home if you want to remove stems.
