I am having a new tub installed & have a question. My installer connected the pipes and there was quite a bit of leaking - water went through to the floor below the bathroom. He said has tightened everything up & is using a plumber's putty & Goop to seal things up. He said leaking is normal with a new installtion & he would keep applying sealer until there is no more leaking. My question is should I be concerned that there was a fair bit of leaking from the start. Should the pipes be connected tightly enough to avoid large amounts of leaking rather than relying on putties & sealers to stop the leaking?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You are correct. You should not need sealers to seal the drain joints, and leaking in NOT normal in a new installation. Drain fittings do not require extreme tightening, in fact they can be tightened too much which can damage the gaskets and cause leaks. Plumber's putty should only be used to set the drain fixture into the tub, not on the pipes. I suggest you get a new installer who has some credentials.
