View Full Version : Is galvanized illegal?

Hey everybody I am new to this forum. And i hope i am not posting in the wrong section.. so here is my problem and my question.

I live in New York city.. I am installing a new directvent hot water boiler and new plumbing i bought 2"in" galvanized pipe for plumbing but today when i was about to start the job, someone told me that using galvanized pipe is illegal for hotwater boiler can you guys please give me some information on this. If it is illegal then which one is the best to use..

Don't you need a building permit for that?
Have you contacted the NYC building inspection dept? They can tell you everything regardng NYC codes there.

It is not illegal, just more expensive than black pipe. The galvanizing would make it last longer, but in a heating system black pipe almost lasts forever.
