Last house I owned before I transformed into a city dweller was an 1897 farmhouse out in the boonies. The walls and ceilings were beadboard. We moved some things around and had some of the board left over, so we ran a wainscot in the little bathroom out of old beadboard. It was fine for most of the year, but in winter the joints would open up maybe 3/16 between the boards. Looked nice, though, most of the time.
