Have a pump built into the floor that has worked successfully for years against flooding. In recent months, the pump turns on for a few minutes at least five times per hour when there is no rain or water of any kind. Cannot make out the model of the pump. Wanted to know if anyone else has ever heard of such an issue. How can one troubleshoot such an instance?

if the basement is finished and / or the pump is over 5 years old i would just replace it.

pump

It should be turned on and off by a float or some other type of switch. Find out why that control is turning the pump on. They do not usually fail that way so you probably do have water coming into that pit.
