I have got low water pressure. I had a 1/2 hp jet pump with a 20/40 pressure switch and was getting 26 lbs. pressure, I thought my problem was a weak pump so I replaced it with a 3/4 hp jet pump with a 30/50 pressure switch now I can only get 14 lbs. pressure and the pump runs non-stop. I have a 40' well and the pump is 60 ft. from the well. If anyone could help me I would be very greatful.

What brands were these two pumps? Do you have two pipes going to the well or just one? Do the pumps ever shut off by themselves?

The 1/2 hp pump was a myres and the new 3/4 hp pump say's Do It best. I bought it from my local hardware store. I have two lines going from the pump to the well. one is 1" and the other is 1 1/4". The old 1/2 hp pump would kick off at 26lbs. but that is where I had to set the pressure switch because it would not build any more pressure. The new 3/4 hp pump stays at 14lbs. and will not shut off. I shut off the main water line going to the house still no change in pressure.

It sounds like the 1/2hp Myers made better pressure than the hardware special 3/4hp. Your jet is plugged. It is in the well and will have to be pulled. You should replace all the pipe, the jet and casing adaptor. This is to insure it doesn't plug again from another piece of mineral getting into the nozzle. I would also recommend going with a 1 or 1.5hp pump and the proper jet to match so you have better pressure. Since you will have to change everything anyway, why not do it right?

Sell the pumps and get a 1/2 hp submersible. 1 pipe and more water than the 1 hp jet. Throw away all that junk that goes with the jet pumps.

Said to be 2 pipes down the well 1.25 and 1.00. Must be larger than 2". Do not see a well size stated.

I went ahead and put in a sub., everything is working fine now. pressure is running at 30/50. Thanks to everyone for all the help.:D
