2 wire vs 3 wire

are there any cost advantages between the two. any efficiency advantages.
pros and cons of both systems.
 
3 wire for me - see thread below about mystery well for some more debate

Little more cost in 3 wire, more starting torque and ability to test carefully and remedy failures and predict upcoming failures from the surface.

1.5 HP seems max used for 2 wire.

If you use cap. start cap. run [CSCR] control box on a 1.5 hp 3 wire pump you might pay for the pump in saved electricity in 10 years. Too tired to calc it - probably several times over.
 
I like the two wire. It has been proven to outlast the three wire motor.

Raucina is correct about the three wire with a run capacitor. The savings of a few amps while running could save you a few bucks in electricity. Although there are two wire motors out there with run caps incorporated into the motor that also save electricity. So it's not just the three wire motors that can run more efficiently.
