Does the main vent always need to be one straight vertical line running up through the house? Are there conditions where it is acceptable to to put 45 degree bends in it as it travels upwards?

We'd like to put a tub/shower in our bathroom, and the main vent runs right where the new faucet wants to go.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

A vent doesn't need to be straight. Horizontal runs need to slope down to allow condensation to drain, but other than that, not a big problem. All it is trying to do is move air, so no biggie. Now, if it got clogged, by something like a bird's nest, the angles would be problematic trying to clear it out.
