Symmons Temptrol System Removal

Looks like a simple job turning into something bigger than it should be. Trying to remove a stem in a temptrol shower valve because water leaks when shut off. Following steps in instructions for the product but the stem won't come out. Ant tricks other than yanking real hard and using WD40?

Don't know, but keep in mind that WD40 isn't the best lubricant - it is "water displacement" formular, trial #40 - it took them 40 tries to make it work the way they wanted...Something else may help loosen it up better...
