I get water hammer when I turn the faucet on. How do I sop this? Some background: I used to have water hammer when I turned off the faucets. I installed water arresters, which stopped the water hammer when the faucets were turned off. Unfortunately, since I installed the water arresters, I now get water hammer when I turn on the faucets. Do the water arreseters store energy that is released when the water is turned on? Anyway, how do I stop water hammer that occurs when the faucet is turned on?

Thanks!!!!

It's unlikely that you had water hammer when using facets...they typically can't turn off fast enough. An icemaker in the frig, the washing machine, dishwasher, yes.

What is more likely is that you have some pipes that are loose moving around. You'll need to find them and anchor them properly to get rid of the sound.

That faucet your talking about probably has a badly warn washer or a washer who's bib screw has loosened up allowing it to rattle back and forth.
Take it apart and put new washers and bib screws on.
