Hello all,
I have to replace a 1960's toilet.
It has 4 bolts holding it down, and I'm assumming a cast iron
hub. Will a new toilet with 2 bolts (and the proper offset) work
with this flange? Also because I will be putting a new 3/8" subfloor
down and I don't want to move the flange will a wax gasket still seal
with a 1/2" gap between the new floor top & the old flange? What is
the max gap that a wax or any other gasket will seal?

Thanks
Frank

The safest bet is to put a new flange on top of the new floor.

Other wise use two setting seals.

Two bolts are good......

Thanks,
If I use 2 seals will it give me any future problems.
Do they make extenders?

Sure, get a seal with a horn and a regular wax ring........

Put the plain seal on the flange and mash it down a little and put the seal with a horn into it and carefully set your toilet.

Thanks,
What toilet would you recommend for a budget bathroom for
a rental property? Something that won't clog.

There are no toilets that will not clog. The cheaper the toilet the more likely it is to clog, and if it is purchased from Home Depot, or other stores similar to it, you have an increased chance of getting a defective one, no matter how much you pay for it.
