Pipe Protection

Ok. Here's one I'm sure I'm just missing the obvious.

If you have a 3" PVC waste line running in a 2x4 wall... the outside width is 3.5" and the so is the 2x4. So, how do you put a strike plate, or something to protect the pipe from being nailed into, etc. if somebody goes to hang a picture?

Drywall will go over a strike plate without causing enough bulge to notice.

They make strike plates in different lengths.

I think you'd need to go to a sheet metal shop and ask them for an 8' (or whatever) length of 16-gauge (1/16") steel a couple of inches wide. If you want to get fancy, they could roll it into a 3 1/2" diameter curve for you. Then use duct tape or epoxy to fasten it to the pipe. The slight bulge in the drywall will be noticeable (or not) depending on the finish and the lighting.

I understand the question now, if your concerned Mikey has the right Idea. I have done repairs on pipe with screw and drill hole problems like your concerned about.

The subject has never come up so we don't worry about it.
