Hello!

I am new to these forums and a very amateur do-it-yourselfer but thought I'd check the web for info before I called a plumber.

I have a GE Potscrubber dishwasher that has been here since before we moved in 6 years ago. Our home is an old home that was built in the 50's and it has a crawlspace (fun place to go).

Just recently we noticed that there is some black soot loooking stuff collecting at the bottom of the the dishwasher. I took off the lid and it appears as though the dishwasher 1) isn't completely draining out and 2) there's a bunch of black mold(?) in there. There isn't a smell that we've noticed yet.

Any ideas? Suggestions? We are now running a cycle w/ bleach to see if it cleans it up.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If the dishwasher's not draining all the way, you may have a clog in the drain hose that connects to the garbage disposal. See if that little hole in the middle of the garbage disposal is caked with food. If you have an airgap, you should look to see if there is a clog where the DW drains into it.

Another possibility is that the timer is going bad, but it's more likely that there is a blockage somewhere.

how old??

How old is this unit??

The bleach will work , also after you are done with
the bleach and have flushed it out throw a quart or two of
VINEGAR into the DW and let it set overnight....

if their is any lime deposits in the outgoing check valve
it will certanly clean it

if its really old, dont be a tight wad....

make your wife happy and get

her a new one from LOWES
and have them install it too....
