One well point currently will deliver 5 gal per min with a 20inch vac with a gould 1hp pump. The point is 25ft 6inch down, and has a 3ft screen with a #18 seive.
If I added a second point 8 - 10 ft away and keep the piping the same distance from the pump, and the point the same depth can I expect to double my gph to 10 and lower the vac on the pump. The well is used for lawn watering only.

Yu won't quite double the water flow because of friction loss through the same size pipe, but it will be a notable improvement. It will be enough that you can get by with a 1/2hp pump instead of a 1hp. The 1/2 will do 10 gpm +. The 1hp is more in the 25 gpm range.

An 18 slot screen is for pretty course sand, I'm surprised you aren't getting more like 10 gpm from that well.

Could the 18 seive point in fine sand cause the point to pack on the outside and thereby cause the point to deliver less water? Some fine sand comes through the point along with yellow water while pumping with the pitcher pump. After running the well with the electric pump the water will clear but only 5gpm. Across the street about 100yds, there is a well at 28ft delivering 15gpm.
I have move location of the well 3 times in search of better water flow, and had the point up and down many times. Also tried a #8 seive s/s wound point only to have high vac on the hand pump with a kick.
Another question: I also noticed that when I pulled the point out and replace with the other size point the results in water flow were less. Could this be caused by a cave-in of the well hole with less desirable soil from above? The best results are when a clean #18 point is placed into a 10 ft auggered hole and diven the rest of the way with a 80lbs weight and pulley a top of a tepee.
How is the seive or gauze of a point determined?
Thanks Tony

The problem with the slot sixe is you don't know what the sand in the water vein looks like, so your guessing at which point is the best. If your getting sand all the time, the slot size is too big. An eight slot is probably too small. I would be trying a 10 or 12 slot.

Going deeper may be the answer too, if it worked for someone else close to you.
