I'm trying to plumb a bathroom in my basement and have ran into a bit of a problem. I have the sink, toilet, and shower all ready to go to the main. However, I can't figure out how to attach to the main? I can't figure out how to get the y's snug into the main. The only way I can get them to fit is if I cut them way to small? Anything and everything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

If you are using pvc and trying to dry fit things, you'll have problems. The connection is designed to be an interference fit...i.e., it will be normally too tight to bottom the connection unless it is slathered with the solvent/glue. The cement actually melts the top layer which allows it to slide together, and then solidifies and welds things together. Got a picture to show what you're talking about?

You normally need to work from the main up to the fixtures, doing it the other way is tougher.

You cannot just cut out a piece of pipe and then insert the fitting. You have to cut out additional pipe and then insert the fitting, with stub pipes attached, and connect them with approved couplings.

Thanks a ton all, sorry that the question was vague. I clearly got in over my head but all worked out so I can rest easy. Thanks for the replies
