Hi

Everytime I empty the bath I have water leaking near the water boiler below. I have just tried taking 2 floor boards up from the side of the bathroom but think that the leak is from the pipe coming from the bath to somewhere in between the wc and whb.

The water runs next to the water boiler but not from it.

Do you think there is a seal gone somewher??

It's not going to be possible for me to get a plumber in until at least the weekend.

Any advice is appreciated, at least as a temp measure so i can have a bath in the mentime???!!!

Is the tub a shower as well? DOes it happen when running only the shower? If using the tub, does it leak as you are filling the thing up, or only when it drains? You sure it isn't from the toilet? or the sink?

Try filling the tub up a bit and letting it sit. See if you get any leaks downstairs. Then let it drain and watch. If neither of those produce a leak, assuming it is a shower, too, run the shower. DOes it start leaking immediately? Do this so the shower head is not producing spray on the walls. If it doesn't leak, then move the showerhead so it sprays a wall.

It could be the gasket beneath the tub drain is shot, something is loose, the trap is rusted out, a line is cracked or rusted, a water pipe after the valve is leaking. Lots of things.

If you can narrow it down to clean water running and leaking, to only when draining, vs maybe when the shower sprays on the walls.

Leak

Hi

Thanks for replying! :)

No shower tray, Im afraid (dont have a shower)

everytime the bath is run too much the water goes down the over flow waste and then has been dripping (slowly) through the kitchen ceiling. I noticed whoever had the house before left a tubbawear box under the "u bent" under bath waste and it was full. (this has been the case for about a yr to be honest and I ignored it)

Now however, everytime I empty the bath, I go downstairs and the water seems to be simulatiuosly running down the top of the cupboard next to water bolier (but not from boiler pipes). The water looks clear.

The only thing I can think is that the bath water is travelling down the waste pipe and leaking somewhere in between the bathroom and kitchen directly below.

I am very tempted to pull all the bathroom floor boards up tonight and investigate!

The gasket around the overflow is a possible suspect. If the water doesn't get to the overflow, does it still leak?

If the trap is leaking, then it needs to be replaced.

Leak

Well it leaks now 2 ways;

1) if water level reaches the overflow it leaks through small crak in kitchen ceiling below

2) Main problem, the water leaks next to the boiler below when the bath is emptied (about 4ft away from above leak) to kitchen below

If I call a plumber are the expensive jobs? Is there anything I can do as a temporary measure until the weekend??

Many thanks for your help! :)

Sounds like an obvious drain problem. The only thing you can do is to expose the tub drain, either by opening up the plumbing access panel, if you are lucky enough to have one, or cutting through the ceiling below, or removing the floor boards, if that is easiest. Although, I can't picture how removing floor boards will expose the tub drain.

Once you find the leak, you can at least put a bucket or another tupperware container under it, until the plumber comes.
