Hi Folks, I'm doing a remodel and have done all the joint sweats for the first time myself. I've been lucky so far....over 40 joints and no leaks. I have run into a few now where I can't do them on the bench and the joints are upside down. The solder will have to go UP into the joint. Will this work OK? Will the solder suck up and around the joint and seal it properly? Are there any tricks I shoud be aware of?
Thanks a lot.
Mike

Heat the fitting, not the pipe with the tip of the flame. Keep daubing the solder till it sucks up inside. Wipe it with a rag right away to make the joint look clean and your home free.

Oatey 95 Flux

And start with Oatey No. 95 tinning flux. I find it reduces the probability of leaks in tough-to-do joints.

wear a hat

all the soldering advice sounds real good......

if you are soldering up-side down or way above your head

its good to place a wet rag somewhere that you think the solder will fall...

just be sure to watch where and when the solder falls to the ground

make sure it does not somehow hit some objects

on the way down past you and burst into hot little balls of

schrapnel flying up into your nostril........

that really stings like hell......

Thanks everyone....I use nothing but Oatey 95 and the Oatey solder.
