I installed an American Standard Champion Right Height that I purchaed at Lowes last week ($121 - Bowl & tank - great deal). It seems to working fine. No leaks. I bolted the tank on a bit tighter than the instructions indicated. I used a screwdriver on the tool included and tightened 1-2 turns beyond hand tight until approx 5 lbs of pressure. The tank sits even & fairly secure. My teenage boys are the primary users and I have heard of no clogging issues, as of yet.:)

I called American Standard and ordered a new backup flapper seal. Thanks to all of the posts on this web site I'm now prepared when the current seal fails - as I'm told it will invariably will.

After one week I have to say I'm satisfied with this toilet.

The flush action itself appeared somewhat hurried. I was concerned that the whole tank wasn't emptying - only about half the tank was emptying with each flush. AS claimed this was as it should be as the remaining water in the tank is used to create the syphon to pull the flapper back into seal. This seems reasonable as the tank appears large enough to hold 4 gallons of water but only 1.6 gals are supposedly used in each flush.

You got some kind of deal at $121, since that is less than 1/2 the typical price. Glad to hear it it working OK.

On all gravity-type toilets, the design of the flush valve...be it a flapper or the flush tower in the champ......causes only a small portion of the water in the tank to flush out. A tank which held only 1.6 gallons would be tiny, and they tend to use the depth of water as a head for increased flow of the flush volume. One complaint on the champ. and some other toilets using the xtra large flush valve is the "clunk" from the abrupt closure of the valve. If the toilet flushe well, you will get used to the sound, and be very happy, especially if you have ever lived with a non-performing low-flusher.

I am thoroughly disappointed with the AS Champion toilet. We bought FOUR of them when we recently remodeled our home. They DO have a very loud clanging noise, like porcelain hitting porcelain, and the chains on ALL of them have broken. We have only been using them for one month! One of them, the entire mechanism inside has broken, and I went to Home Depot today (where we BOUGHT them!) and they had no parts for them!

My first choice was to have been the Flushmate toilets, and I wish I had not let Home Depot talk us into these wasteful toilets! They told us these were the best on the market, and they are absolutely horrible!!! American Standard needs to get behind the people who have bought these lousy toilets and give us replacements -- not the same horrible toilets, either!

The Champion had some parts problems early on, which have been resolved recently. One of the problems was that the clip that held the chain together would fail, causing the chain to come loose. Perhaps you got some old stock? If you call American Standard I think they will send you the upgraded piece that you need. They can be reached at 1-800-442-1902.

Champion - new model

Haven't had any problems with our AS Champion yet. The underside of the tank lid is stamped with a '1005', which I'm guessing is the manufacture date - Oct 2005. The chain linkage to the flush handle arm seems to be upgraded from the flimsy clip that was shipped with the earlier models. No leaks from the flush tower yet - seal seems to be working fine. "Clunk" isn't too bad and haven't had to use the plunger or second-flush yet. I would recommend looking for a recent date stamp on the tank lid before purchasing the Champion, considering all the problems with the earlier models.
