recessed install on a whirlpool tub with NO built in tile flange.

i'll have to buy a tile bead kit.

is 100% silicone the best for sealing the bead to the tub?

how about for the gap between the tub and the tile itself?

is there a product that's better or that will keep the seal longer?

also, the tub will have to be imbedded in mortar.

I assume that durock is the best product to have the mortar stick to, correct?

American Standard says to use brick layers mortar. Is this the best mortar for the job?

Only want to do this remodel once.

You don't need the stuff to actually adhere to the floor, it is there for support, so durock is overkill - do it on the subfloor unless you decide it is easier to get the height you want with the durock down. Cheaper and just as good to lay a sheet of plywood down if you want the height, then the mortar.

thx once again Jadnashua

how about the tile bead question? is 100% silicone best?

is bricklayer's mortar best for the mortar bed?
