One of the cold water faucets in the bathroom sink suddenly slowed to a trickle in front of my eyes. At that time, the washing machine was running, so I attributed the low water pressure to that, though I was using hot water for the clothes in the machine. However, its been 3 days, and the cold water is still a trickle. There is also a swishing sound in the pipes under the sink when the cold water faucet is turned on, but not when I turn on the hot water. What could be happening here?

Most likely something has broken loose and is plugging that faucet. It is probably a rubber washer or gasket from the connection to the main supply line. Take the aeriator (screen) off the faucet. I'll bet you'll find the problem. You then may want to check the cutoff valve for the faucet because that's where the material probably came from. This valve should be under the sink, and if you need a new gasket, these are readily obtainable from almost any hardware.

Sounds like Gary is on the right track. If you have flexable supply lines you could turn the water off at the stop, disconnect the problem one where it connects to the fauct and get a bucket and turn the stop on directing the water into the bucket. If it flows like gangbusters then you know the problem is at the faucet.

Try removing the areator and turning on the faucet B4 you do anything and see what happens.

thank you

thank you for the kind responses. I will take care of the problem in the next day or so.
