I just plugged in an old Kenmore 26, around 20 years old.

I hooked up the water lines. Drinking dispenser is working fine.

However, the ice maker starts to run alot of water into the tray, and then overflows. No ice made, just a waterfall of water.

I tested the solenoid at 2k, resulting in .291ohms.

Any ideas? Thanks.

There is some kind of sensor in the icemaker that turns the solenoid valve on and off. You need to check if the solenoid valve is commanded open (usually power on the valve) or closed (no power on the valve). If the valve is commanded open when the ice maker is full of water, then the sensor is bad. If the valve is open when it is not commanded open, then the valve is shot.

If you unplug the refrigerator, that should close the valve. If the water continues to run with the refrigerator disconnected, then you have a bad valve.

Anything sitting around for 20 years is an excellent candidate for failure of seals.

The water fill time is controlled by the timer. Either the timer is stuck or the valve is. Some of the older timers could be initialized by rotating the big gear with a phillips screwdriver.
