I purchased a NIBCO 4805 3" PVC adaptor to connect PVC DWV pipe to an existing 3" cast iron hub. The part came with no instructions. Can someone provide instructions on how to make the connection?

pvc to C.I.

The fitting that you have I believe must be leaded into the cast-iron hub, oakum+lead that is,if you are not familiar with this process there is another method.A rubber compression gasket that fits around the 3"pvc pipe and is lubricated and then tapped into the C.I.hub to make the transition from c.i. to pvc

Genova Plastic Lead

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think a rubber gasket will work because the cast iron is 30 years old and probably not very precise hub. I would like to use a lead substitute such as genova plastic lead. Will this work to seal pvc in a cast iron hub? Should I also use oakum?

pvc to C.I.

I personally would not use the genova plastic lead product, but that is your choice.Yes you must use oakum and properly pack it,do not get water on the oakum, the oakum will swell once it is exposed to water which will help seal the joint after it is made with the pouring of the lead or the substitute product you want to use.
