Washer drain pan required?

Hi,
I wish to install a laundry room on the 2nd floor of our Seattle home. Is a drain pan(and drain with p-trap) required?

Depends on where you live...as mentioned, it isn't a bad idea wherever you are. check with the city or town on local codes.
