I have an older water softener and the settings are off. The water is very salty after I had messed with the settings. The water is very high in the brine tank.I have an older water softener and the settings are off. The water is very salty after I had messed with the settings. That is a time clock Fleck 2500, an excellent control valve. It can be rebuilt if needed. The timer is an old one and difficult to set. In your manual there are instructions... and I suppose you don't have a manual. IIRC it is an Intermatic timer, search the web for "Intermatic timers" with the "". Then try it with + softeners.

There are numbers of minutes and/or lbs of salt on the dials. I do not know how to tell you what to set them at and I don't know, actually I can't recall, which is used for the salt dose but it may be the yellow dial, not the time yellow dial, the other yellowish or orange one.

You have the vinyl drain line kinked and that can prevent proper suction for brine draw which allows the water to rise in the salt tank. It also prevents proper backwash and regeneration.

Replace the drain line with CTS (copper tubing size) 1/2" ID 5/8" OD PE tubing instead of the vinyl you have; vinyl should never be used on any type of water treatment equipment. Put the control into a manual regeneration and time each cycle position and index the dials as you establish the time to the number on the dials. Or call a long time dealer in your area asking if they will service and set it up for you. If you haven't replaced the resin, based on the age of those timers, it's past time to do so.
