The pilot light on my hot water heater keeps going out. It relights okay but will only go out again; time frame uncertain, suffice to say it's on in the morning (after I relight) and usually off after coming home from work. I've not looked closely yet but does the thermol coupler have an adjustment screw or does this device need to be replaced. The heater is only three years old. Thanks Robert

pilot

Replace the thermocouple. Take yours out and to the hardware store and get a replacement. Not hard at all.......

There is no adjustment on a thermocoupler, but at least they are quite inexpensive and usually are not that difficult to replace. They are available at most any hardware store or plumbing shop.

t'couple

However, if the thermocouple works good enough that you can light the pilot, it is not usually the reason the pilot light goes out, unless there is also another problem with the heater.

Thanks all. And yes I did see how easy it is to replace it. If it's not that expensive I'll get another one. Hoping that it is the thermocoupler and not something else because the pilot light will relight although today it didn't seem to what to light. Well, a new coupler and we'll see. Again thanks!
