Please offer some guidence:

I have a shallow well. We have noticed that the water pressure inside the house has decreased. Went outside last night and the pump was running. Checked the holding tank and water was up to the top. Water came out in a good stream when I open the valve.

I waited a long time and the pump never cut off. I finally killed the breaker and went to bed.

I am on the way to the breaker after I type this.

I know nothing of wells, please help....

Never Mind

I found a broken pipe. Pump was supposed to be running as the water was just dumping.

Thanks

Somewhere there is a pressure switch, it should be near your bladder tank which should not be full of water. It needs to have air in the top of the tank It sounds like the switch may be bad but it could be the pressure tube going to it is plugged with mud/dirt. Check this. The bladder tank needs to have 2# less pressure than the cut in pressure of the switch. Example is whth pump off and no water ppressure in water lines if your pressure switch is a 20/40 you need 18# air pressure in the tank when checked this way. If it is full of water then the tank is bad and this can cause the pump to run also.
