I'm thinking of using a wall hung unit in my house to create more space in the basement, and are these units as effecient as they claim to be.
Am I making a good decision switching from my reliable 40 gallon Rudd that has served me well, or should I leave well enough alone?

look around these threads and you will find your answer....

they are junk, only i fyoui are living in the deep south where the
ambient temp isalways warm forthe incoming water

you will be pineing for your old RUUD water heater after a short time....

but look at the fine print on the units....

they are supposed to be purged and cleaned out
every month for optimum performance.....

their are literally no service tech for most name brands either

I am calling the BBB in my town tomorrow to
tell them about someone in this town who is trying
to sell these Northstar brand to people for about 4500
installed.... they are not mentioing anything about the
monthly service that is needed when they sell them to
unsuspecting customers.

I kind of figured that seeing that 99% of the Northeast has your standard 40 gallon gas-fired heater or a indirect storage tank, again thanks for the input.

If they pay $4,500 to have one installed, then they have not done their homework in the first place. They are getting ripped off on the installation, so they might as well add to it by not knowing about any maintenance. But I guess the installers could add a "Maintenance program" for some ridiculous amount per month.
