There are compression fittings for pex, but if you have much to do, their cost gets prohibitive vs the crimp type. From what I've seen (and by no means am I an expert), if you aren't using a compression fitting, you need an expander tool. Wirsbo then uses a ring of the same material around the tubing after it is inserted into the fitting for additional strength. The others use a metal crimp ring to hold the tubing over the fitting. So, with Wirsbo, you only need the expander tool and the fittings. The others, you need the expander tool, the fittings, and the crimp tool.
