I have finished my basement and installed a AmStand faucet. The copper pipes were put in last year and the sink this year. When I turn on the faucett for the first time after sitting for several hours the first 5-10 seconds the water is stained a brown color and then it clears up. Shouldn't any stuff have passed long ago? I removed the strainer and cleaned it. Is something rusting in the faucett?

The shower in the same room is fine so I don't think its in the lines.

Any ideas???

thanks

Do you have galvanized pipes? or are they all copper? Does it happen with both the hot and cold, or only one of them? Have you tried just letting it run for 5-minutes full blast to see if that clears things out?

The entire house is copper and less than 2 years old. The hot puts out the color for sure. Need to check the cold as it takes a little time to build up the color again. I have let them run for several minutes to try a flush.

thanks

rust

You may have a steel nipple where the valve is connected at the wall. Or the heater may be rusting, and the effect is emphasized when the water is stagnant for a longer time.

No steel nipple. If it was the heater wouldn't the color show in other seldom used areas? The heaters two year old also. Could a small piece of metal in the pipe during installation got pushed to the faucet and lodged and be rusting???

thanks

water

That would be the least likely thing that I would consider. How close to the heater does that faucet's supply pipe connect and how long is it? That would make a difference compared to other faucets. And it would not have to be the heater rusting, it could be something in the connections to it, or more likely on the outlet.

The faucet run is about 25 feet from the heater. The shower come off the same line prior to the faucet and it is clear. So I assume its between the two right?

thanks

Not necessarily. The longer line could just be exagerating the effect, plus the shower is used frelquently so any discoloration would be flushed out before it could accumulate to the point where it is noticeable.
