Sink basket installation

Hi Guys!

Just a quick question. What do you prefer to use on a stainless steel sink to seal the sink basket...plumbers putty or silicone caulk? I've always used putty, but someone suggested silicone. What do you guys use? Why?

Plumbers putty only.

Silicone only if the Mfg. of the sink specifys it.
