Has anyone ever heard of an electronic valve that turns on
the water to the washing machine hoses only when the
unit is turned on?????

supposed to coat around $150 for the kit to install on
the washing machine or to the wall box???

got stumped by a cusomer today about this,

I told him I would get back to him

He probably saw it on This Old House, they showed a valve like that a couple of months ago. It also comes with a moisture sensor that shuts it off if something leaks. Check out the pbs.org website, they post links.

Boo on electronic washer valve controller

I think they've been around for a few years actually, I remember seeing it in a magazine or on TV a long time ago. I think a set of stainless steal hoses are a better investment. This do-dad doesn't relieve the pressure out of the hose. Hose could still burst when the washer (thinks) it is filling. Washer would stay on in fill mode and valve be open while water is spraying everywhere.

Yup, this old house did a segment on it. Mostly for people with washers on the 1st. or 2nd. floor.

The valves are made by Watts, Intelliflow Valves

Please note they say that the valves prevent leaks while the washing machine is OFF, if the hose burts while the washing machine is ON, you would still get a flood. That's why they also sell the floor sensor attachment, which is needed for a complete solution.

I think you'd be better off with the single lever-handle valve that shuts hot and cold off by just pulling the lever toward you. Quick, easy and less potential to malfunction. Just turn the water on to start the laundry and turn it off when finished. Probably lots cheaper, too!

thank you for all the informatioin

will check out the Watts valve..

It sounds like the watts will work and installing Braided SS hoses will most
likely make it pretty reliable....

Gary...
Yes, it would be best if people would just turn off the washing machine after every use,

...but if you have dealt with the general public long enough
you know 95 % of them are totally clueless, ...
dont want to learn or be shown anything at all....
or are just too damn lazy to do it....

just getting most of my renters to change a light bulb is a
a major accomplishment.

one example I have experienced...
When one customer went to florida on a WINTER vacation,
they had the know how to program their VCR to tape every episode of their favorite soap opera for a whole month,

but they dindt know how to or didnt think to shut off the main water supply to the house... and while they were gone their was a
major BLIZZARD that hit our town........

so guess what they came home to....????

I TRUELY LOVE THEM ALL

Because they are willling to pay me
THE BIG BUCKS>>> for basically easy , simple repairs

aint life grand??

I LOVE IT.

life is grand

the people I am talking about
actually had a 650k home less than one year old
before they went to florida...... fairly wealthy folks
for around here anyway.......

Nice walnut kitchen floors, real wood throughout the first floor
A BIG two story with a full finished basement.....
an extra nice basement cherry wood walls ,
big screen tv ... library.... bar,,, work out room......ect...

the flood started on the second floor --- a frozen pipe---
in a side wall to a Delta tub faucet.
and the water eventually worked its way down to the basement.
through the first floor kitchen area and living room......LOL

no one knows for sure if the power went off first
or the frozen pipe eventually
killed the furnace and power to most of the house...

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The newspaper boy, on a snowy Sunday morning passing by their home,
notices that the basement window wells were full to the top with water
and calls the fire department.......

they shut off the water and inform the home owner that they might as well stay down in Florida for a bit longer...LOL

when we arrived to assess the damage for the insurance
company you could only go down the stairs about half way
because of the water....about 4-5 feet deep

the washing machine was floating off the ground
listing to the side being held to the wall by the hoses......LOL

the house was basically ruined all the floors were buckled, ect ect..

We were not the original plumbers,
and I would not hold them to blame here either

the absolute stupidity of the home owner was to blame here..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

But on the bright side ,
they still got all their favorite shows taped !!!

he-- he-- he

one more thought

watts interflow model A2-m1 has an additional water sensor you place on the floor under the W.M. if an internal hose goes during operation, the water
feed valve closes
