I am about to order a part from McMaster Carr, P/N 2389K43 Female trap adapter. It is for my motorhome shower drain. The discription puzzles me in that while it is a socket-weld x pipe, it says the connection is (Spigot).

I don't understand what the word (Spigot) means in this case. Does the pipe end have threads or is it a slipfit that will tighten down like on a lot of home bathroom drains? I need a pipe threaded fitting.

I've always used the words: spigot, cock, tap, faucet and thought that they were interchangeable....

In PVC pipe fitting the spigot is the male part that gets glued into the socket, the female part.

An alternate word for socket would be 'hub', hub is the converse of spigot.

A female trap adapter is where one end glues to the drain pipe, the other end receives a tubular type by means of a slip-joint connection.

A spigot fitting is sometimes referred to as a street fitting; but a street fitting could also be male threads, so spigot is the more accurate name. As far as I know, spigot would always refer to a non-threaded end.

I have always called a trap adaptor a Desanco fitting. Made or sold by the Desanco company I beleive.
